Synthesis of tetrathiafulvalene polymers

Abstract
Several main-chain and side-chain tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) polymers have been synthesized combining the unique properties of high molecular weight polymers, such as processability, with the outstanding electron donating properties of TTF systems. Doping of polyurethane with TCNQF4 leads to a free-standing, processable film exhibiting a moderately high electrical conductivity of 8 × 10–4 S cm–1, which is comparable to iodine-doped non-ordered polythiophene. The synthesis of a fully conjugated, planar and sulfur-rich TTF polymer, which should increase the dimensionality of the conduction process in the doped state, is presented.
