Abstract
In 54 of 84 patients with hepatic cirrhosis, and 16 of 23 with chronic hepatitis, clot retraction and rigidity were decreased in the thrombelastogram. The effect of the disturbance in platelet function did not parallel the severity of the liver disease, although the platelet defect is an important factor in some forms of hepatogenous hemorrhage. Hepatogenous throm-bocytopathy and hereditary thrombasthenia have some similar features.
