Abstract
Two samples of direct fed circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antennas at 2.45 GHz printed on different substrates with high and low loss tangent are reported. A stub is used in the feed network to make the frequency with minimum return loss, f/sub r/ (resonant frequency), equal to the frequency with minimum axial ratio, f/sub cp/ (circular polarization frequency). The effect of losses on the return loss, resonant frequency and their bandwidth are examined. Experimental results of antennas showed the impedance bandwidth (2:1 VSWR) about 49 MHz and 37 MHz for FR4 and RT/Duroid substrates, respectively. Axial ratios of 0.5 dB for the low loss antenna and 2.5 dB for the high loss antenna are obtained. Keywords
