Untersuchungen über die Plastein‐Reaktion, VI. Einfluss der Kettenlänge und der Endgruppen des Monomeren auf die Kondensierbarkeit

Abstract
Hexa‐, penta‐ and tetra‐peptides of similar composition bearing aromatic acminoacids on both ends are active in the plastein reaction. Analogous tri‐ and di‐peptides, however, do not polymerize in the presence of pepsin. Substitution by alanine of the amino‐end standing tyrosine in the pentapeptide did not affect its ability to form plasteinm whereas the same substitution at the carboxy‐end caused inactivity. No correspondence exists in peptides between pK values of the acidic and basic end groups and reactivity in plastein formation. Other structural features seem therefore to be responsible.
