Abstract
Investigations regarding insects attacking Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius Link) were initiated at the USDA European Parasite Laboratory, Nanterre, France, in 1951. It was soon apparent that a lepidopterous stem and twig miner, Leucoptera spartifoliella Hübner, was a promising candidate for introduction into the United States. The only other broom species on which it was ever found was Cytisus purgans (L.) Benth. A series of tests indicated it was unable to develop on or to cause more than slight superficial damage to useful plants.
