Abstract
To the Editor: We wish to elaborate upon a number of the statements by Dr. Robinson in the recent Massachusetts Department of Public Health article, "Sickle Cell — Point, Counterpoint" (N Engl J Med 289:323–324, 1973).There has been a good deal of conjecture about the attitudes of the black community and state departments of public health concerning the efficacy of sickle-cell anemia screening programs.1 2 3 Our recent investigation, dealing with these attitudes in a previously screened community4 and in the departments of health of all 50 states and the District of Columbia (unpublished), has provided some interesting insight into this . . .Keywords
