Lipoprotein (a)

Abstract
Despite the current flourish of activity in lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] research, there is still little known about its physiological function. This may change as Lp(a) has been found to behave in a way similar to man in easily accessible species such as laboratory animals. As Lp(a) may be causally linked to atherosclerosis not only in hyperlipoproteinemia but also in diabetes and renal disease, there is an urgent need for therapeutic measures to control increased Lp(a) levels.
