Abstract
While numerous cases of retinoblastoma (often referred to as glioma of the retina) have been reported in the ophthalmic literature, complete reports of cases that came to autopsy are comparatively rare. The incidence of this primary new growth of the retina among white children is about 1 in 10,000 cases observed. Krauss and Goldberg1 reported the incidence at Wills Hospital, Philadelphia, as 1 in 5,000 cases. Thompson2 recorded 13 cases of glioma from 24,500 records. Sisson3 collected statistics from twenty-two great ophthalmic clinics of the world. He reported 203 patients with gliomas among the 498,057 admitted, or 0.04 per cent. There are no available statistics of the incidence of retinoblastoma among colored children. Cohen4 reported a case of retinoblastoma in a colored child. He quoted E. P.
