Application of a Combination of Analogue and Digital Computers to Electron Trajectory Tracing

Abstract
Two methods are described for tracing the paths of electrons or other charged particles through electrostatic fields. Both methods employ a Ferranti Pegasus digital computer in conjunction with (but not directly connected to) a resistance network analogue. The first, a direct application of a well-known ray-tracing method, is suitable for the computation of electron lens properties, whilst the second is a specially devised method of more general application. Results indicate that high accuracy is obtainable with both methods.Keywords
