Abstract
Experiments were carried out to study whether cherelle wilt is responsible for loss of yield in cacao. It was found that increasing or decreasing flower setting had no effect on yield as the crop was unrelated to the number of cherelles formed. Preventing setting till after the April ‘flush’ had no effect on yield. Variations in wilt between and within selections were studied, and it was concluded that yield is dependent on the nutrient status of the tree and independent of fluctuations in cherelle wilt. Keywords
