Flooding for the Control of Wireworms in California

Abstract
Expts. in flooding the soil to control wireworms were unsatisfactory until it was found that the results depended largely on the temp. Cage and field tests showed average mortalities of 80 to 90% when the soil temp. was 70[degree]F or above. Most of the surviving worms were below the 9 inch depth. Plowing beforehand increased the mortality. Continuous flooding was more effective than intermittent. Water requirements were about 4 acre-inches per day.
