Abstract
The WAIS-R (Wechsler, 1981) and elderly WAIS-R standardization samples (Ryan, Paolo, & Brungardt, 1990) were combined to develop demographically based regression equations to predict subtest scaled scores. Equations generated from a development sample cross-validated well and final equations were generated from the entire sample. The equations demonstrated adequate ability to suggest possible subtest decline in a sample of 247 persons with brain dysfunction. Examination of the difference between the estimated and obtained scaled scores also provided information beyond that of the typical normative and ipsative subtest comparisons. Confidence intervals at the 90% and 95% levels of abnormality were provided to assist clinicians in the detection of possible decline in subtest scaled scores. Keywords
