Abstract
In this paper, two cases of chronic ulcerative colitis displaying systemic manifestations are discussed. Each case illustrates the refractoriness of the systemic manifestations to colectomy and the total resolution of the manifestations by additional proctectomy. The implications of these clinical observations in relationship to the aetiology and therapy of ulcerative colitis are discussed. Keywords
