Excretion of Heptachlor Epoxide in the Milk of Dairy Cows Fed Heptachlor-Sprayed Forage and Technical Heptachlor

Abstract
No heptachlor or heptachlor epoxide was detected in the milk of cows fed hay made from forage sprayed with 3.8 and 8.0 oz. of heptachlor per acre and harvested 7 days after spraying. Heptachlor epoxide was detected in the milk of a cow fed 1.3 mg of heptachlor /kg of bodyweight. Cows fed increasing amounts of heptachlor (up to 3.78 mg/kg of bodyweight) had concentrations of heptachlor epoxide in the fat-corrected milk as high as 5.7 ppm. From 0.3 to 2.8% of the heptachlor fed was excreted in the milk as the epoxide metabolite.
