Abstract
The numerous and accessible Asaro of the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea were the subjects of relatively few studies. They appear to be biologically very similar to their neighbors, and though the finding among them of hereditary ovalocytosis might suggest some connections with the coast, the mode of inheritance of the condition indicates a separate mutation, and their genetic marker profile gives no evidence of any coastal admixture. Keywords
