Abstract
Immunoglobulin[Ig]M antibodies [Ab] can be measured by indirect immunofluorescence in sera of patients with Lassa fever or Marburg virus disease 4-7 days after onset of illness. Titers reach a peak 1-2 wk later. These Ab disappear or titers decrease considerably 1-2 mo. after onset of illness. Anti-viral IgG Ab can be detected at the same time as or a little later than IgM Ab, but they persist much longer. None of the 3 patients discussed, who died of Lassa fever, developed IgG Ab and only 1 developed IgM Ab.
