Requirements for an interchange format for digitized EEG

Abstract
A uniform means of transferring clinical EEG data between computer systems is proposed. This will facilitate the transfer of information between different computer systems within an institution, and between current and future generations of equipment. The mechanism for this transfer will be a data interchange format definition which does not depend on hardware or software characteristics, or on the nature of particular storage or transmission media. Each computerized EEG system will thus require only two special programs, a formatter and a deformatter, to convert between its particular internal format and the general interchange format.
