Abstract
The general immunological capacity of 40 patients with multiple sclerosis was evaluated with the lymphocyte transformation test including mitogens (PHA [phytohemagglutinin] and PWM [pokeweed mitogen]) and antigens (PPD [purified protein derivative], Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli). Determination of T [thymus-derived] and B [bone marrow-derived] cells was performed by E [sheep erythrocyte]-, EAC [human erythrocyte, antibody, complement] rosetting and immunofluorescence for surface immunoglobulins. Compared with the results obtained in 42 normal, individuals only minor differences were found. Keywords
