Abstract
The amphipods are listed that belong to the fauna of an almost land-locked shallow lagoon and of a deeper basin of this northern British locality. The shore sand of the basin is very uniform, with particles mostly < 0.50 mm. in diam. There is almost complete absence of silt or fine shingle. The lagoon sand has a higher % of calcareous and organic matter and is not subjected to any wave action. In the lagoon, 4 spp. of burrowing amphipods are abundant and 9 other spp. occur living on weeds. 12 spp. occur in the basin. The precise habitat of each species is descr. Certain spp. were collected in these shallow waters that occur only at greater depths further to the south. A few measurements showed no significant differences in size between northern and southern forms of Gammarus marinus.
