Abstract
The physical properties of Laser and the present medical uses of applied photobiological energy are outlined. The neuropathology of herpes zoster and the aetiology of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) are summarised, and the various treatment approaches are discussed. By matching the known healing properties of specific laser wavelengths and the underlying neuropathology of PHN, a profile of therapy has been developed for trial in those patients suffering from intractable PHN, refractory to conventional treatmentKeywords
