Abstract
Autotransplants of the uterus or endometrium survived in 31 out of 34 guinea pigs. Histological examination of the persisting transplants indicated 13 with more than a trace of normal appearing endometrium (12 with uterine transplants and 1 with an endometrial transplant). Estrus occurred 15 to 32 days (average 23 days) following the preoperative or puberal estrus in 8 of these 13 animals. Subsequent cycles were observed in 4 cases. The occurrence of estrus in females with little or no endometrium was comparable to that observed in totally hysterectomized females. These data suggest the existence of a functional relationship between the endometrium and the regression of the corpora lutea in the non-fertile cycle of the guinea pig. Keywords
