Abstract
Current car safety systems are passive systems. Modern car assistance systems are based only on vehicle data. Future safety systems will also include object recognition in the near frontal area of the vehicle to detect dangerous situations. Therefore, special sensors and algorithms are needed. The paper discusses a system using a laserscanner and a video camera.Keywords
