Evaluation of Some New Compounds in Controlling American Foul Brood

Abstract
Ten compounds were fed to colonies of honeybees infected with American foul brood. All those treated with ampicillin (4 colonies), doxycycline (14), methacycline (13), Oxytetracycline (14) and tylosin (3) became free of visual evidence of the disease, and there was no recurrence by June of the following year. The colonies treated with doxycycline became visually free of the disease in less time than those treated with any other compound. Kanamycin and oxacillin may also merit further study. Chlorine dioxide, nalidixic acid, and paromomycin gave poor control.
