Comparison of Two Artificial Diets for Rearing Heliothis zea Larvae for Insecticide Tests

Abstract
Heliothis zea (Boddie) larvae were reared on artificial diets having a wheat germ or alfalfa meal base. The wheat=germ diet proved greatly superior to the alfalfa=meal medium. Larvae fed the former diet attained the pupal stage in fewer days and with less mortality than those on the latter. Susceptibility of the larvae to endrin apparently was not influenced by the culture medium.
