C-Type Virus in Tumor Tissue of a Woolly Monkey (Lagothrix spp.) With Fibrosarcoma2

Abstract
A 3-year-old male woolly monkey was presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital with multiple fibrosarcomas and myelofibrosis with myeloid metaplasia. Subsequent ultrastructural investigations revealed C-type viral particles replicating from fibroblasts, histiocyte-type cells, and cell fragments in tumor and bone marrow tissue. Immature and mature virions frequently were found in extracellular spaces. These virions were morphologically similar to those associated with the leukemia-sarcoma complex of chickens, mice, and cats.
