Effect of Succinimide and other Drugs on Oxalate Excretion by Rats

Abstract
Succinimide, phenyl lactate, n-heptanoate, oxamic hydrazide, 2-oxoglutarate and ethinyl oestradiol all failed to reduce the urinary excretion of oxalic acid in male Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rats. The problem of controlling oxalate excretion in patients with primary hyperoxaluria or idiopathic calcium oxalate stones is discussed and it is suggested that dietary measures, combined with orthophosphate therapy, may offer a more fruitful approach to treatment than attempts to reduce the endogenous synthesis of oxalate.
