Abstract
Summary. The prevalence of antibodies to parietal cells, intrinsic factor and thyroid cytoplasm in the Welsh population has been estimated. Women had a higher prevalence of these antibodies than men and their frequency shows a significant increase with age. There is a significant association between the presence of thyroid and gastric autoantibodies in women but not in men. Parietal‐cell antibodies are more common in men with low haemoglobin levels. Three out of 506 women were found to have intrinsic‐factor antibody. Keywords
