Abstract
The x‐ray K‐absorption spectrum of metallic yttrium has been investigated using a 400‐mm bent crystal (mica) spectrograph. The extended fine structure has been explained in the light of Hayasi's theory. The bond lengths have been computed for the yttrium metal and five of its compounds using Lytle's analysis. Plasma oscillation theory seems to explain satisfactorily the first two absorption maxima close to the absorption edge. Keywords
