Outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy

Abstract
As medical costs have skyrocketed in recent years, hospitals have been forced to seek alternatives to traditional inpatient care. One such innovation is the outpatient program for intravenous antibiotic therapy begun ten years ago as a joint effort by Park Nicollet Medical Center and its affiliate Methodist Hospital, Minneapolis. Three hundred fifteen patients have successfully completed drug therapy in this manner for a variety of infectious diseases and, according to the authors, the results have been gratifying for both the patient and the medical institutions.
