Observations of Rapid Blue Variables--I: Techniques

Abstract
An instrumental system designed to obtain data from rapid variables at high time resolution is described. The central element of the system is a small general-purpose digital computer which controls the data acquisition process and records the data under the direction of internally stored programs. The basic architecture of these programs is outlined, some constraints on the process of high speed photometry are briefly discussed, and examples of recent results are presented to illustrate the potential of the method.
