Abstract
To the Editor: I read with considerable interest the editorial in the June 4 issue of the Journal entitled "Thromboembolism — Spring, 1964." This is indeed timely, but it seems even more important to stress the desirability of prevention of venous thrombosis rather than treatment of the complication, pulmonary embolism. Whereas it is impossible to prevent venous thrombosis in every case institution of certain prophylactic measures can prevent its development in many patients.It is now generally agreed that two factors are responsible for the phlebothrombotic type of venous thrombosis (the type in which there is danger of pulmonary embolism . . .Keywords
