6α- and 6β-Acetic acid derivatives of Cholest-4-en-3-one and Pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione

Abstract
The methyl esters of the 6-epimers of 3-oxocholest-4-en-6-ylacetic acid, and of 3,20-dioxopregn-4-en-6-ylacetic acid, have been synthesized from 5α,6-epoxy-3,3-ethylenedioxy-5α -cholestane and 5α,6-epoxy-3,3,20,20-bisethylenedioxy-5α -pregnane, respectively, via the corresponding 5α-hydroxy- 6β(prop-2-enyl) derivatives.
