Abstract
Flight activity of honeybees was observed in two locations in California. The total number of outgoing flights from a hive varied between 14 000 and 163 000 a day. Significant diurnal variations were recorded; with high temperature and low humidity in the desert, there were very few flights at midday, and very many at dawn and dusk. The use of relative daily numbers of flights as a measure of foraging potential is discussed. Keywords
