Abstract
The molecular-weight distribution of [rat] liver glycogen was established from the analysis of sedimentation rates of fractions separated on sucrose density gradients and from the direct measurement of the diffusion coefficients of these fractions by laser-intensity-fluctuation spectroscopy. Hydrodynamic studies indicated that all fractions of glycogen of MW > 25 .times. 106 had about 1.1 g of H2O/g of polysaccharide associated with them. The hydration and hydrodynamic behavior of all fractions of MW 25 .times. 106 was similar, whereas smaller fractions behaved anomalously, indicating a substantially different overall structure. This publication has 18 references indexed in Scilit:
