Nursesʼ and Physiciansʼ Valuation of and Willingness To Promote Teamwork

Abstract
To assess the extent to which nurses differed from physicians in terms of valuation of and willingness to promote attitudes toward teamwork, research was conducted using data collected though a multistage nonrandom survey in 46 hospitals in Zambia and the Ivory Coast. Respondents provided information on a Likert scale regarding (1) the importance to him or her of teamwork within a hospital; (2) how well the hospital promotes teamwork; and (3) the extent to which he or she is willing to promote teamwork. T-tests compared the two professions; moreover, a 2 x 2 analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to control for country effect. Findings were favorable toward nurses on general valuation of teamwork in hospitals and on valuation of teamwork practices. No significant difference was detected on willingness to promote teamwork.
