Abstract
The apparent inconsistencies among the theories of de Haas-van Alphen oscillations in the Knight shift due to Das and Sondheimer, to Stephen, and to Dolgopolov and Bystrik are resolved. The calculation of the Knight shift is treated by a method which goes beyond the semiclassical approximation used by these authors. It is found that for polyvalent metals the dominant magnetic field dependence may be due to the behavior of the electronic wave function, rather than to the density of states. Keywords
