A Nurse Staffing System Based Upon Assignment Difficulty

Abstract
A comprehensive approach to nurse staffing is described Activity difficulty and the capacity of various levels of staff to handle difficulty in relation to quality objectives are the foundation upon which long-range and variable staffing recommendations are made. The approach includes an instrument that measures quality of care after the staffing recommendations are implemented, and it provides for unit-by-unit monthly management reports based upon information gathered in daily monitoring of staffing needs.
