The Hyalomma Ticks (Ixodoidea, Ixodidae) of Afghanistan

Abstract
Hyalomma ticks characteristic of the Indian sub-region either do not occur in Afghanistan or (H. marginatum isaaci new comb.; H. kumari) are rare there. Species of the Turanian area (H. schulzei, H. marginatum turanicum) average the same size in Iran and Afghanistan. Species that range into this country from northern Africa and western and central Asia (H. a. asiaticum, H. dromedarii, H. detritum, H. a. antatolicum, H. anatolicum excavatum, H. impeltatum, H. aegyptium) tend to be smaller in size than specimens from samples to the north and west of Afghanistan. Details of this Hyalomma fauna remain very poorly known. Data for all available Afghanistan collections are collated, together with notes on identification.
