PATHOLOGIC CHANGES IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM RESULTING FROM EXPERIMENTALLY PRODUCED HYPERPYREXIA

Abstract
The brains of dogs dying shortly after subjection to hyperthermia showed hyperemia, edema, and an acute disease process of the parenchyma without signs of beginning repair. The brains of dogs living for several months after subjection to hyperthermia demonstrated evidence of parenchymatous damage undergoing repair. Clinically this group of animals showed no disturbance of motor function or behavior. The application of a frozen CO2 temp. collar about the neck did not lower the temp. of the head or prevent heat stroke.
