Abstract
This article examines the convergence of some aspects of postmodern theory with large‐scale policy formation. Drawing on this emerging body of theory, several analytical approaches are suggested. The Education Department of Queensland, Australia has recently circulated a number of ‘discussion documents’ as an alleged prelude to policy formation, though the intersections between the discussion documents and the associated policies have not been made clear. These documents are presented here as starting ‘stories’ among educators and others interested in current changes in Queensland education. However, these documents tell their stories without endings. The endings come from neonarratives. The pluralities of postmodernism, and the systemic certitude coming from bureaucracies ultimately harmonize within neonarratives, albeit sometimes only briefly. Keywords
