Migraine and women

Abstract
Successful management of migraine in women requires an understanding of the effects changing sex hormone levels have on headache patterns. In this article, Dr Silberstein explains the modulating and triggering effects of the sex hormones during significant hormonal phases of the female life cycle, including menarche and menstruation, pregnancy, oral contraceptive use, and menopause. Pharmacologic management and prophylaxis of migraine are the focus of his discussion.
