Abstract
Food preferences, prey capture, feeding behavior and food requirements were studied in captive Ictonyx striatus and Poecilogale albinucha. Comparative information on diet was also obtained from the examination of stomach contents of animals collected in the wild. Ictonyx was polyphagous, eating almost all small animals, but mainly insects and rodents; Poecilogale took only warm-blooded vertebrates. In prey capture tests Poecilogale emerged as a specialist killer of small mammals, while Ictonyx was more adaptable, being able to vary its killing pattern to deal with different types of prey. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
