Practical Behavioral Approaches to the Effective Management of Pain and Distress

Abstract
The experience of cancer must be understood within the context of the associated sequelae of actual or potential pain, anxiety, and distress. Given the complex nature of the problem, the effective management of pain and distress requires a comprehensive approach. Behavioral approaches are a significant adjunct to pharmacological, surgical, anesthetic, and radiological treatments. This article offers practical information on how to identify situations in which behavioral approaches can be applied.
