Conflict and Cognitive Control

Abstract
When there is conflict regarding which action plan to execute in response to a sensory stimulus, the brain exerts greater cognitive control to try and resolve the conflict. In their Perspective, [Matsumoto and Tanaka][1] explain new work ([ Kerns et al .][2]) showing that the detection of action-plan conflict by the anterior cingulate cortex leads to recruitment of greater cognitive control in the lateral prefrontal cortex.
