Abstract
A traffic model was developed by the Chicago Area Transportation Study for predicting urban traffic volumes. The research conducted by CATS indicates that a combination of the gravity model and a linear programming technique provides a sound method for forecasting. Linear programming is one of the newest techniques in the industrial field. It can be applied to the city planning field to indicate expected travel patterns that would result. Tests reveal that it is a satisfactory and reliable procedure for forecasting traffic. Keywords
