Abstract
In this paper we derive an approximate formula for the continuous absorption coefficient of the hydrogen negative ion. This formula gives results comparable to those obtained by Chandrasekhar, who used an eleven-parameter ground-state function and the dipole velocity matrix element. Our numerical results are compared with the corresponding numerical calculations of Geltman. Keywords
