Abstract
Dimethyltin dichloride and dibromide form crystalline salts containing the ions Me2SnX3 – as well as Me2SnX4 2–. The infrared spectra of the former are consistent with the methyl groups occupying equatorial rather than apical position of a trigonal bipyramid. The spectra of complexes Me2SnX2,2L indicate the methyl groups to be in trans octahedral positions, with the remaining ligands in cis positions when X = Cl and L = pyridine or triphenyl-phosphine oxide. Keywords
