Abstract
Studies on 4 isolates of S. flavogenita indicate that nonheterothallism (presumptive apomixis) may be typical for the species, but heterothallism was demonstrated in 1 isolate, CR 1. The heterothallic condition was derived in the laboratory from a specimen which was apomictic. Possible mechanisms of the interconvertibility between heterothallism and apomixis are presented, and the evolutionary significance of the 2 life cycle modes in a single morphospecies is discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
