A Comparison of Productivity in a Mutant and Wild Strain of Tribolium castaneum Herbst

Abstract
A comparison was made of the number of adults produced by a wild strain of T. castaneum as comp ared to the paddle mutant strain. Over a 60 day period under identical conditions the wild strain produced only 57.6% as many offspring as the mutant strain. This difference in productivity was highly significant. The difference may be due to the paddle gene itself or to other genic changes acquired as the paddle strain adapted to a laboratory environment.
