Plasma progesterone levels during delayed implantation in the European badger (Meles meles)

Abstract

There was a biphasic pattern of progesterone secretion during the year. Delayed implantation was characterized by low concentrations from Feb. to June, a significant (P < 0.001) increase during July, Aug. and Sept., and a return to low levels in Oct.-Nov. A 2nd significant increase (P < 0.001) was observed in Dec. and early Jan. just before the presumed time of implantation.
